Senior ML Engineer
Introduction
Are you passionate about building and deploying cutting-edge machine learning solutions that solve real-world problems at scale?
Nigel Wright Group is delighted to be partnering with an innovative AI-driven healthcare technology business on the appointment of a Senior Machine Learning Engineer. This is an opportunity to join an ambitious organisation that is transforming how healthcare providers understand and improve patient experience through advanced analytics, machine learning and natural language processing. The business operates internationally and is experiencing significant growth as demand for data-driven healthcare insights continues to increase.
Using millions of patient feedback signals, the organisation helps healthcare providers make better operational decisions, improve services and ultimately deliver better outcomes. Its platform combines machine learning, healthcare-focused NLP and modern cloud technologies to generate meaningful insights at scale.
As the business continues to invest in its AI and data capabilities, it is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to take ownership of the machine learning systems that sit at the heart of its product offering. This is a high-impact opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands-on engineering expertise with technical leadership and architectural influence.
The Role
As Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will be responsible for the development, deployment and optimisation of production machine learning systems. Working closely with Data Scientists and Data Engineers, you will help build robust ML infrastructure, improve model performance and deliver new capabilities into production environments.
Key responsibilities include:
• Building, deploying and monitoring NLP-focused machine learning models in production.
• Owning MLOps and machine learning lifecycle management processes.
• Improving platform reliability, scalability, observability and cost efficiency.
• Enhancing the accuracy and performance of machine learning and NLP solutions.
• Designing and maintaining automated deployment pipelines within AWS.
• Acting as the subject matter expert for machine learning architecture and engineering best practice.
• Identifying opportunities to leverage emerging technologies to further strengthen the organisation's AI capabilities.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems, taking ownership of critical systems and working in an environment where technical decisions have a direct impact on product success and business growth.
What We're Looking For
Success in this role will depend on more than just technical capability. We're looking for someone who enjoys building things properly, takes pride in engineering excellence and is excited by the challenge of scaling machine learning systems in a fast-moving business.
You'll be comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy, collaborating across technical disciplines and balancing innovation with practical delivery. Equally, you'll enjoy staying close to the detail, solving complex problems and continuously improving how machine learning systems are built, deployed and maintained.
We're particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
• Experience building and deploying machine learning solutions into production environments.
• Strong understanding of the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle.
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS.
• Knowledge of MLOps, automated deployment pipelines and model management processes.
• Strong Python engineering skills and an appreciation for software development best practices.
• The ability to influence technical direction and support architectural decision-making.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Additional experience that would be advantageous includes:
• Experience training and optimising NLP models.
• Knowledge of PyTorch, Scikit-learn and Hugging Face Transformers.
• Experience with semantic search, sentiment analysis, anomaly detection or related NLP applications.
• Exposure to event-driven architectures and streaming technologies.
• Experience working within a high-growth SaaS or technology-led business.
Why This Role Stands Out
• Opportunity to shape and build machine learning infrastructure that sits at the core of the business.
• Significant ownership and influence over the future direction of the ML platform.
• The chance to work on meaningful AI and NLP challenges with real-world impact.
• A collaborative, flexible and remote-first working environment.
• Exposure to cutting-edge machine learning technologies and cloud infrastructure.
• Competitive salary, bonus potential and wellbeing benefits.
• The opportunity to join a growing business where innovation, ownership and technical excellence are genuinely valued.
If you're excited by the opportunity to build scalable AI solutions, shape the future of a growing machine learning platform and play a key role in a business using technology to make a meaningful difference, we'd love to hear from you.
