Due to growth a leading Newcastle-based business is seeking a Senior Accounts Assistant to join its finance team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a fast-paced, multi-entity environment where you'll play a key role in supporting finance operations, driving process improvements and acting as a go-to person for transactional finance queries.
The Role
As the Senior Accounts Assistant you will provide senior support across the finance function, taking ownership of more complex accounting tasks while supporting Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities. You'll also act as a first point of escalation for junior team members and contribute to ongoing improvements in systems, processes and automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing a full range of transactional accounting duties including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, reconciliations and journal postings.
- Acting as a first point of escalation for finance queries from the transactional team.
- Leading and supporting billing processes, ensuring invoices are raised accurately and on time.
- Managing complex reconciliations including bank accounts, supplier statements and intercompany balances.
- Investigating discrepancies and resolving finance-related issues.
- Supporting external audit requirements and finance reporting activities.
- Assisting with system administration and maintaining accurate finance records.
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and efficiencies across the finance function.
- Supporting the adoption of automation and AI tools to enhance finance operations
About You
- Previous experience within a transactional finance, finance operations, Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable role.
- Strong experience with complex reconciliations, journals and finance adjustments.
- Advanced or intermediate Excel skills, including data manipulation and analysis.
- Experience working in high-volume and/or multi-entity environments.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive attitude with a desire to improve processes and support colleagues.
