Accounts & Billing Coordinator

Newcastle upon Tyne  Permanent  Competitive Ref: 418880

The Opportunity

Looking for something more than a traditional credit control role?

Nigel Wright are exclusively working with Newcastle International Airport to support in seeking a proactive and commercially minded Customer Accounts & Billing Coordinator to join its growing Finance team.

This is a unique opportunity to work behind the scenes at one of the North East's most iconic organisations, supporting a diverse portfolio of customers ranging from major airlines and commercial partners to engineering contractors and training clients.

We're not looking for someone who simply follows a standard collections process. Instead, we're looking for a natural problem solver and someone who enjoys investigating issues, building relationships, improving processes and finding solutions.

Key Responsibilities

As part of the Finance team, you'll play a key role in managing customer accounts, resolving billing queries and supporting debt recovery activities across a complex and varied commercial environment.

Working closely with both internal departments and external customers, you'll investigate account discrepancies, identify the root cause of issues and ensure accurate information is maintained across finance systems.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys ownership, takes initiative and thrives in an environment where no two days are the same.

  • Managing and resolving customer account and invoice queries.
  • Building strong working relationships with operational teams and commercial stakeholders.
  • Contacting customers by telephone and email to collect outstanding payments and resolve account issues.
  • Maintaining accurate customer and debtor records within the finance system.
  • Issuing customer statements, reminders and supporting documentation.
  • Investigating complex billing arrangements and identifying solutions to account challenges.
  • Supporting process improvements and helping enhance data quality across customer accounts.
  • Supporting wider finance activities and projects as required.

About you

We're open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds. Experience in finance is advantageous, but equally important are your attitude, initiative and ability to solve problems.

You'll ideally have:

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Good numerical ability and confidence working with data.
  • Strong Excel and systems skills.
  • A proactive, investigative approach to problem solving.
  • The confidence to challenge processes and drive improvements.
  • A desire to develop your career within finance.

Next Steps

This is an opportunity to join an organisation that is genuinely unlike any other in the North East.

From your office, you'll be part of an environment that connects businesses, communities and travellers every day. You'll work with a wide variety of customers, gain exposure to complex commercial operations and play a visible role in supporting the airport's continued growth.

Please Note
The successful candidate will be required to meet airport security clearance requirements, including employment and reference checks, and must be eligible to obtain an airport security pass.
