The Role

The key responsibilities for the Buyer role include:

•    Manage purchasing spend of approximately £1m-£1.5m across direct and indirect categories. 
•    Source and procure materials, fabrics and components to support manufacturing requirements. 
•    Raise and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely processing. 
•    Expedite deliveries and maintain supplier performance against agreed lead times.
•    Develop strong supplier relationships and negotiate commercial agreements.
•    Review existing suppliers and identify alternative sourcing opportunities where appropriate.
•    Support supplier rationalisation and sourcing strategy initiatives.
•    Develop and improve stock management processes and inventory controls. 
•    Monitor stock levels, carry out stock checks and maintain accurate inventory records. 
•    Oversee maintenance-related suppliers and contractor relationships. 
•    Identify and deliver continuous improvement opportunities across purchasing, inventory and supply chain activities.
•    Assist with the implementation of the new ERP system.

Nigel Wright are thrilled to be working with a long standing, reputable manufacturer based in Northumberland in their search for a skilled Buyer to join their procurement team. 

About You

The successful Buyer will be/have:

•    Previous purchasing, buying or procurement experience within a manufacturing environment. 
•    Proven experience managing stock control and inventory processes. 
•    Strong supplier management and negotiation skills.
•    Commercially aware with the ability to balance cost, quality and service. 
•    Highly organised and capable of managing multiple priorities. 
•    Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of key responsibilities.
•    Proactive and improvement-focused with a hands-on approach.
•    Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships internally and externally.
•    Advanced Excel skills would be advantageous.
