The Company:
This is an opportunity to join a well-established and growing business operating within a fast-paced, operationally focused environment. The organisation supports a complex supply chain with both domestic and international reach and is continuing to invest in strengthening its procurement capability.
The procurement function plays a key role in ensuring continuity of supply, managing supplier performance, and supporting the wider operations team to deliver against customer demand. This role sits within a collaborative team environment, working closely with planning, production and logistics.
The Role:
Reporting into the Head of Procurement and Planning, the Buyer will take responsibility for the day-to-day purchasing of materials and services in line with business requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Raising and managing purchase orders in line with demand and production requirements
- Managing supplier delivery schedules to ensure on-time delivery and continuity of supply
- Maintaining accurate system data including lead times, pricing and order confirmations within ERP systems
- Building and maintaining effective supplier relationships to support operational performance
- Supporting negotiations to improve cost, service levels and commercial terms
- Monitoring supplier performance (OTIF, quality, lead times) and escalating issues where required
- Working closely with internal teams including Planning, Production and Logistics to align supply with demand
- Identifying and mitigating supply risks, expediting orders where necessary
- Contributing to cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives within procurement
- Ensuring compliance with internal policies and maintaining accurate procurement data
This is a hands-on role suited to someone comfortable operating in a busy environment where priorities can shift and responsiveness is important.
The Person:
Candidates will ideally bring prior experience in a procurement or supply chain role within a manufacturing or operational setting.
Key requirements include:
- Experience in a Buyer or similar procurement role
- Exposure to working with international suppliers
- Experience negotiating with suppliers and managing ongoing performance
- Understanding of supply chain risks and how to mitigate them
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Confidence working with ERP/MRP systems and maintaining accurate data
- Commercial awareness and a practical, solutions-focused approach
- Ability to communicate effectively with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers
A degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, Business or a related discipline and/or CIPS (or equivalent) would be beneficial but is not essential.
