The Opportunity

Position: Accounts Assistant
Location: Office-based in a North East location with free parking and good transport links
Salary: £28,000 - 35,000 per annum dependant on experience
Contract: Permanent (open to full or part-time hours)

We’re working with a values‑driven organisation that exists to make a genuine difference as they look to recruit an Accounts Assistant who enjoys being hands‑on, working closely with a variety of smaller clients, and contributing positively to a supportive, collaborative team.

This role is fully office‑based to enable training, collaboration and knowledge‑sharing.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening delivery capacity, with responsibilities including:

  • Preparation of year-end accounts.
  • Provide financial advice and guidance to clients, many of whom have limited business experience.
  • Collaborate with the internal team to manage deadlines and maintain compliance.
  • Use accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, and TaxCalc.
  • Support process improvements and adoption of new technology.

This is a practical role for someone who enjoys doing the work, not just reviewing it.

  • Strong bookkeeping fundamentals
  • Experience using Xero and/or QuickBooks
  • Familiarity with accounts and tax software (e.g. TaxCalc or similar)
  • Confidence working across multiple deadlines and clients
  • A collaborative, patient and down‑to‑earth approach

Further details

  • Purpose-led work supporting organisations that make a difference.
  • Family-friendly flexibility (e.g., adjusted hours for school runs).
  • Well-being support: access to counselling, health plan, and GP services.
  • CPD opportunities and support for further qualifications.
  • 20 days holiday plus additional days at Christmas, pension scheme.
  • Collaborative, supportive team environment (office-based preferred for peer support).
