EPIC Steps & Even Bigger Ideas: Reflections from IFA Berlin
I’ve just returned from IFA Berlin, one of the world’s largest trade shows for consumer electronics and home appliances. The scale was immense — in a single day, I clocked nearly 30,000 steps exploring the halls and still felt like I only scratched the surface.
The atmosphere was electric. Innovation was on display everywhere, from robotics and AI-driven solutions to sleek new small domestic appliances. What stood out was that one of the top awards went to a refreshingly simple concept: a high-definition mobile home theatre. No AI, no complexity — just a brilliant idea, beautifully executed. A reminder that in today’s tech-driven world, sometimes the most effective solutions are the simplest.
Conversations that Count
IFA wasn’t just about the latest products — it also offered valuable opportunities to connect with the businesses shaping the future of consumer technology.
During the event, I met a diverse mix of organisations:
- Established global brands showcasing their latest innovations.
- Ambitious scale-ups expanding into new international markets.
- Specialist manufacturers exploring ways to differentiate in competitive categories.
It was also great to reconnect with existing Nigel Wright clients, while forging new relationships with companies across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and beyond. These conversations highlighted the breadth of challenges and opportunities facing the sector — from navigating growth in overseas markets to developing the next generation of product and commercial leaders.
Why This Matters
The event underlined just how quickly the consumer tech and home appliances sector is evolving. Businesses are innovating at pace, competition is intensifying, and growth opportunities are global. This, in turn, creates a clear demand for high-quality leadership and commercial talent — individuals who can drive expansion, manage complexity, and deliver results across diverse markets.
This is where Nigel Wright Group adds value. Our specialist recruitment expertise in consumer-facing industries, combined with international reach, enables us to help companies build the teams they need to succeed. Whether in the UK, Europe, or elsewhere, we understand the dynamics of this sector and the challenges involved in finding the right individuals.
Continuing the Conversation
For me, IFA Berlin was unforgettable, exhausting, and absolutely worth it. Beyond the excitement of the technology, it reinforced the opportunities that exist for Nigel Wright to support ambitious consumer brands on their growth journeys.
If any of the themes I’ve highlighted resonate with your business — or if you’re facing similar hiring challenges — I’d be delighted to continue the conversation.
