Fentimans are a privately owned premium drinks business based in Hexham, Northumberland. They produce a range of botanically brewed soft drinks and mixers that have a reputation for taste and quality and have enjoyed significant growth in recent years, building a solid position as one of the top brands in the UK premium soft drinks market. In addition to the UK, they have a rapidly growing international business, serving consumers in 75 countries worldwide.

As they continue to grow they are expanding the category management team to better meet the needs of their customers. The team sits within the wider sales function but has close links to marketing, supply chain, and finance to ensure their growth is focussed in the right areas.
 

The Role

Reporting into the Sales Operations Controller the Senior Category Manager will play a leading role with Fentimans' largest Grocery and On-Trade customers, turning category data and insight into ambitious growth plans. They will develop strong relationships with buyers, merchandisers and customer category teams to become the ‘go to’ source of category insight and recommendations.

  • Understand the dynamics of range, distribution, promotions, price, and NPD to provide the key actions that will drive growth for Fentimans and their key customers
  • Grow the distribution footprint of the Fentimans brand in line with annual targets
  • Improve the range mix by ensuring best selling products are distributed in the right places, and play a leading role in ensuring NPD is both fit for market and sold in with rationale
  • Lead the development of the Mixers category strategy to ensure Fentimans is best placed to gain widespread distribution in the market
  • The role will have one direct report (Business Analyst), who will be responsible for business and category performance reporting
  • Leading monthly, quarterly and annual category reviews with key customers
  • Leading the range change process with customers to grow distribution and improve mix
  • Writing selling decks for NPD and new initiatives to gain listings
  • Evaluating instore promotions and writing a Fentimans promotional framework
  • Understanding opportunities for promotional feature with customers

The Person

  • 5 years experience within an FMCG Category Management role, preferably within drinks
  • Previous experience of grocery and/or on-trade customers would be beneficial
  • In depth experience of using and analysing either Nielsen or IRI Epos data
  • This is a highly numerate and analytic role therefore person should enjoy dealing with and interpreting large amounts of data and have strong excel skills
  • Able to convert data into insight to build relevant category stories and initiatives for the brand to achieve relevant KPIs
  • Customer facing role so candidate must be able to present findings in a confident and engaging manner both internally and externally
  • Based 4 days per week in Hexham office, 1 day from home
