The Opportunity

The Commercial Purchasing Manager vacancy is a 14-month fixed term contract position to cover a period of maternity leave.

You will be wholly responsible for managing, supporting and mentoring a close-knit Purchasing Team (5 Direct Reports) and will have full responsibility for Raw Materials, Packaging, Giftware for Bettys Bakery, Cafes, Bettys by Post and Bettys Cookery School.  

Additional key responsibilities will include: 

  • Strategic category management responsibility for Raw Materials, Packaging, Giftware
  • New sourcing, market research/analysis in line with the above/resolution of unforeseen supply issues
  • Commercial negotiations, supplier onboarding, demand forecasting and planning
  • Ensuring that contracts are formalised for key supplier partners, implementing supplier management frameworks, conducting supplier reviews and managing performance
  • Representing Purchasing Team upon key business-wide projects and collaborating closely with key internal Teams including:
  • Product and Innovation, Range, Technical and Quality, Production, BYP and Group Procurement
  • Ensuring adoption of correct Procurement process and best practice, reviewing, devising and implementing initiatives to drive efficiency 


About You

You will have/be:

  • Proven procurement track record, from within Food and Drink sector essential 
  • Previous pricing and contract negotiation experience essential
  • Experienced Team Manager and Mentor
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills – confident to represent Purchasing at internal meetings, collaborating with senior stakeholders across the business, competent in driving Project activity
  • Tenacious, detailed and analytical - able to probe to fully understand exact Project sourcing requirements
  • Resilient and adaptable to changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic working environment 
  • Proactive, assertive, confident decision maker 
  • Hands-on, positive, team player – willing to get involved in work to support the team and business as a whole

The role is currently home-based, however the successful candidate should be able to work on site in Harrogate 3-4 days a week, from January as required.  Flexible working options may be available for the successful candidate!
