Nigel Wright are proud to be partnering with Nic Ice Ltd in their search for an Engineering Manager for their site in Barking. A passionate and people focused food manufacturing business with sites throughout the UK, they are part of the broader Orkla business. With more than 150 years’ experience behind their brands, they are a leading developer and innovator, offering new products, recipes and marketing display ideas. The structure of the business gives each site autonomy over its running, including budgets, profitability and costs, with investment from the wider group to support capex investment as appropriate.
The site in Barking has c120 staff and has experienced a rapid period of growth over the last couple of years, doubling in size. There is a real appetite to improve efficiencies of the equipment and upskill the teams, so it is essential that the new Engineering Manager is looking for a role where they can really wrap their arms around the site and take it on a journey. Along with upskilling operators, there will be financial investment, with the potential of c10-20 new capex projects in the short to mid-term. The site would benefit from an individual who is just as happy to be hands on and get to the bottom of what is causing an issue before creating and implementing the plan of how to fix it. The leadership team are committed to the site and it will play a strategic role in the growth of the broader organisation, so for the right person, this job will be the first step to a progressive career with Nic- Ice and Orkla.
In the first 6-12 months the Engineering Manager will really get to understand the site and the people. It is about identifying what capabilities they currently have and what they need to change or upskill in order to achieve the longer term goals. By building up the Engineering team and promoting a mindset of continuous improvement, operators will take on more ownership for machinery allowing the Engineering Team to focus on more proactive maintenance and strategic projects. As the business continues to grow and the Engineering function becomes more established, the role will become more and more strategically focussed.
Whilst the site is part of a larger organisation, this role would suit an individual that understands the challenges of working for a smaller, privately owned business. Ideally this will be coupled with some experience working in a blue chip or a business that demonstrates the use of CI initiatives. Someone who knows what good looks like and can take people on a journey to understand the benefits of doing things differently. A strong leader, that who can influence cross functionally and isn’t afraid to roll their sleeves up to get the job done. Working closely with the Production Director and the COO, this role offers fantastic visibility and future opportunities for the right candidate.
All 3rd party introductions will be forwarded to Nigel Wright.
