The Opportunity:

Nigel Wright has been retained by Cleveland Containers to lead the search for a talented and ambitious Head of Sales to join their fast growing and highly profitable business.  This is a tremendously exciting newly created position and the new hire will join the senior management team, reporting directly to the Managing Director, with a dotted line to the other directors of the business.

Cleveland Containers is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of shipping containers on a sale and hire basis.  The Company has experienced rapid year on year growth since its incorporation a decade ago.  This growth has accelerated considerably in the last two years with 80% growth in the 20/21 financial year and an additional 25%+ growth forecast for the 21/22 financial year. 

This has created fantastic progression opportunities for the team at all levels of the Company’s hierarchy and has also led to a number of newly created positions within the organisation.  The business has maintained excellent supply chain management, creating strong availability of stock, as well as operating an industry leading and best-in-class targeted marketing strategy, which has been central to the growth story.

Role Profile:

  • Leading and driving the high performing sales team of circa 10 heads.
  • Working closely with the Marketing Director, whose function drives the high-volume inbound lead generation pipeline.
  • Coaching, developing and performance managing the sales team to ensure optimum performance against budgets.
  • Analysing performance trends and conversion rates.
  • Reporting performance levels and pipeline upline to the board.
  • Creating a high-margin and solution-based sales culture and mindset within the team.
  • Identifying and progressing key account opportunities from individual sales leads and developing the team to spot and act upon these opportunities.
  • Developing and enhancing the general processes and structure of the sales function (including CRM).
  • Creating and implementing a training and development programme that is fit for purpose for onboarding new hires and continuing the progress of existing members of the sales team.

Person Specification:

  • A track record of success in leading a high volume B2B sales team to achieve year-on-year growth and in exceeding budgets.
  • Evidence of having developed new key account opportunities.
  • A natural coaching style.
  • Experience of developing sales function systems and processes.
  • Strong performance analysis and presentation skills.
  • A charismatic and engaging personality.
  • Previous exposure to implementing and developing training programmes for existing sales teams and for onboarding new sales hires.
