The Client

Our client are a market leading private equity backed FMCG business with European headquarters in the North of England. They Provide branded and licenced products to a range of retailers including Argos, Amazon, Department Stores, and a large Independent channel. Their European business is predominantly serviced through distributors. They are currently looking to appoint a Head of Digital Sales to strengthen and grow their focus on profitable growth across pureplay channels in the UK and European Territories.

Role Purpose

This individual is responsible for leading all Digital/ E-Commerce sales and development across all pure play customers and the companies own B2C websites across Europe as well as the longer-term digital strategy of the business. You will be responsible for implementing activities to drive awareness, new customer acquisition, engagement, and revenue for the brand. The responsibilities include setting the growth strategy, overseeing resources, and driving the execution.  You will be the day-to-day lead with the likes of Amazon, Wayfair and Zulilly building our business with these key customers to deliver sustainable sales growth.
From a technology perspective, this individual is the operational and strategic owner. They are also responsible for the operations of and the leveraging of our site data analytics to help drive improved site usability and improved conversion. They own the daily monitoring of site performance from a functionality, usability, and flow perspective. In depth knowledge of site key performance indicators and utilizing it across our best-of-breed data analytics package is extremely important to be successful. You will lead the E Commerce team within the business which currently consists of an E Commerce Development Manager and an E Commerce Development Assistant.



  • Owning and managing the day-to-day activities of the E commerce and pure play sales platforms.
  • Project managing activities that improve our digital presence and performance of all E Commerce activities.
  • Measuring and reporting on the performance of E Commerce and digital marketing campaigns to understand success on ROI and KPIs.
  • Growing profitable Sales across all Pure play online operators.
  • Growing profitable sales across all the UK owned websites, exploiting all digital platforms to grow customer traffic, improve conversions and increase AOVs using all the tools available.
  • Develop the technology roadmap for all future E Commerce requirements and consult and recommend key direction to Senior management going forward.
  • Act as project coordinator, business project manager, and business analyst (working with e-commerce team and outside vendors) on developing new site features and improving functionality on existing features.
  • Writing and/or coordinating resources to write, new site functionality requirements.
  • Primary liaison and owner of application development.
  • Coordinate quality assurance testing.
  • Use site analytics to analyse user behavior on all websites. Based on the analysis will make recommendations on how to improve the shopping experience, and therefore conversion, on the website. This will include formal usability testing and heuristic testing.
  • Monitor site performance on an ongoing basis. Identifies solutions to optimize performance of site such as response time, page load times, path optimization, page errors, checkout funnel optimization, page abandonment, and all other analytical key performance indicators.
  • Communicates and keeps key stakeholders, informed of key business issues, and makes recommendations.

Knowledge & Skills

 - Strong Digital sales understanding

 - External Sales experience ideally with pure play operators
 - Web Analytics tools
 - Strong knowledge of search engine marketing, and all its variations
 - Social media analytics tools
 - Ecommerce platform Shopify.
 - Online advertising tools such as Google AdWords, Google Product Listing Ads (PLA's) and display ads  
 - Experience working with the major social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Google

You will likely have a minimum  of 5 Years’ experience, which can be a combination of E Commerce, online technology, application development.

  • Experience managing SEO, ecommerce, email marketing, and social media.
  • Strong understanding of current online marketing concepts, strategy and best practice.
  • Previous experience in a similar sales driving role.
The role is home based with a head office in the South of the North East region.  An ability to commute when required would be beneficial.
