Nigel Wright Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with Darlington Building Society in their search for an Assistant Financial Controller. This role will report into the Financial Controller and will suit someone who is qualified (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) and ideally with experience of working within the Financial Services industry.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ensuring timely and accurate completion of regulatory returns as well as keeping pace with and maintaining knowledge of the fast changing regulatory requirements within the sector.
  • Responsible for preparation of complex accounting estimates on a monthly basis, for example EIR, provisions and hedge accounting.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate completion of internal management information for the Executive Committee and the Board.
  • Key role in the production of the annual report and accounts including the management of the on-site external audit process.
  • Ensuring up to date knowledge of accounting standard changes.
  • Preparation of ad-hoc financial data, information and analysis as required.
  • To act as a treasury authoriser as required.
  • Having an active role in the Finance Department's Leadership Team and delivering departmental objectives.
  • Prepare accurate and timely budgets & forecasts, I&E, blanace sheet providing commentary and analysis including the Society's annual 5 year Corporate planning process.
  • Working closely with the FC to ensure management and oversight of the department in line with agreed objectives.
  • Day to day management and supervision of staff within the finance department., supporting the FC in the overall management of the department.
  • Liaising with external stakeholders including auditors, tax advisors and HMRC.
  • Supporting with any adhoc projects within the finance function.

Experience required

  • A recognised accounting qualification - ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
  • Experience of working within the financial services sector or knowledge of this sector to support with understanding of the regulatory requirements would be beneficial.
  • You will be ambitious, self driven and highly motivated.
  • Excellent communication skills to manage, lead from the front and engage with a variety of stakeholders within the organisation.
  • Ability to produce and develop MI reporting.
