The Opportunity:

Nigel Wright has been appointed as the retained partner of Harrison Packaging to recruit a Head of Sales to join their successful and growing business, to lead their sales function and to drive further profitable growth.

Established in 1882, Harrison Packaging is the UK's oldest independent carton manufacturer.  Operating from modern, purpose-built facilities, Harrison works with some of the UK's leading brands to offer innovative, sustainable, printed solid board packaging.  The company provides a range of bespoke solutions across a diverse range of market sectors including food, confectionery, beauty and healthcare and has continuously invested in capital equipment, its market offer and its team to remain at the cutting edge of the sector.

Role Profile:

  • Lead the team of Business Development Managers, setting exemplary personal standards to create a high-performance culture.
  • Provide support, coaching and training and utilising appropriate management tools to instill a desire to excel and to enable the team to realise their potential.
  • Build and develop relationships with key retailers to maximise opportunities in target sectors.
  • Lead and facilitate the link between the Customer Service and Sales teams.
  • Undertake targeted personal business development activities, developing and implementing strategies to exceed agreed business targets.
  • Take accountability for owning the relationships with key accounts to maximise revenue potential.
  • Engaging effectively across the management team and being visible and approachable across the organisation.

Person Specification:

  • A track record of leading sales functions to exceed targets and delivering year on year profitable growth.
  • A background in the solution-based packaging sector would be preferable.
  • A natural coaching style with an engaging and motivational approach to leadership.
  • A preference for learning about the detail of customer's businesses, their scale and diversity, the markets in which they operate and 'end use' product knowledge.
  • High levels of self-motivation and a competitive, ambitious and target driven mentality.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Diplomacy, patience, reliability and resilience.
  • The role is UK wide, but the preference would be for the individual to be based in the Northern half of England for practicality and periodic travel to head office in Teesside.
