Nigel Wright have been appointed to support Whickham School & Sixth Form College with the recruitment of a Director of Finance, which is a newly created position within the organisation. This is a key appointment for the School for future growth opportunities.

Whickham School is a large and successful school in Gateshead with over 1600 students including approximately 250 in the sixth form, which is one of the most successful in the region with over 50% of grades being A*-B grade in the 2019 exams. Demand for student places is strong and the school is regularly oversubscribed. Whickham School wish to appoint a Director of Finance who is for developing and delivering the financial strategy and for strong financial performance across the Trust. This role is a key part of the Executive Management team and holds responsibility for the leadership and development of finance, with the capacity to take responsibility for estates and operations.
Reporting to the Chief Executive and the Board of Trustees you will define, deliver and continuously develop the financial management strategy for the Trust as well as providing sound strategic advice to the Board of Trustees, Chief Executive, Local Governing Bodies and Headteachers on all issues relating to financial matters.
You will be expected to assume accountability for the proper financial operations of the Trust and all its academies as part of the Trusts ambitious growth plans. You will secure the long-term financial sustainability of each academy and the Trust, establishing agreed long-term financial plans and follow best practice in all aspects of financial governance.
You will be a skilled communicator and negotiator, with the ability to build strong relationships within a multi stakeholder environment. The following non-exhaustive attributes would be also be advantageous:
