The company:

Nigel Wright Recruitment are delighted to be working with Lynemouth Power Ltd (LPL) on the recruitment of a Commercial Manager. LPL is owned by Czech-based EPH, a leading operator of more than 20 power plants worldwide.

LPL is in the final stages of commissioning following a £350m investment that will see the former coal-fired power station convert to full biomass electricity generation, powering approximately 450,000 homes. This is one of the largest civil engineering developments recently undertaken in the UK and it will establish Lynemouth Power Station as a flagship site for the renewable energy sector.

The investment has included the construction of six new silos, the development of bespoke large-scale handling facilities at the Port of Tyne, resurrection of the trainline from the port direct to Lynemouth Power Station and a comprehensive overhaul and modification of all on-site equipment. LPL were awarded with an investment contract under the CfD scheme.

The role:

This newly created role will report into the MD and form a key part of the senior management team.

The Commercial Manager will be responsible for:

  • Leading and developing a team of three experienced staff – Fuel Logistics Specialist, Commercial & Sustainability Analyst and Commercial Assistant
  • LPL biomass contracts and supplier relationships from the point the fuel arrives at the Port of Tyne, to the movement of material from the Port to Lynemouth.  These commercial contracts are already in place so the focus will be on contract management, KPIs, reviewing, refining and optimising the contracts and looking at ways to improve operations and reporting to drive efficiency, risk mitigation, and cost reduction
  • Management of the Contract for Difference (CfD) contract
  • Gross margin planning, forecasting, managing risk and optimising delivery
  • Identifying wider commercial opportunities, e.g. obtaining value for Lynemouth’s flexibility in the wholesale electricity market and capture value from by-products
  • Manage and implement the Business Risk Register
  • Provide reports to LPL Board

The person:

This is a broad role and could suit candidates with a senior level commercial, contract management or supply chain background.
An understanding of how the UK energy market operates would be advantageous, particularly around feedstock materials, managing the Contract for Difference (CfD), trading of energy and the optimisation of other possible revenue streams.
Candidates with a commodity trading background or with strong commercial experience within heavy industry could also be of interest.
