The role;

Due to a period of change, we have an opportunity for an experienced HR Manager to join our growing team. The HR Manager role is a pivotal role; providing support to the business and ensuring departmental objectives are met. The ideal candidate will have a ‘hands on’ approach with regards to delivering the HR service as well as supporting with delivering training to managers. The ideal candidate will have experience in an industrial environment with a strong focus on continuous improvement and streamlining processes. This role is central to our planned growth and will play a key role in supporting the business as we grow.

HR Manager duties and responsibilities:

Key responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for the HR function, working alongside the business to deliver objectives and ensure that the HR function supports the vision and needs of the company;
  • Key member of the Senior Management Team with a shared responsibility to promote the Houghton International vision, values and principles;
  • Ensuring that a robust, effective and fit for purpose HR system is maintained;
  • Best practice delivery of the full HR remit, including recruitment, training, performance management, disciplinary and occupational health services;
  • Understanding the key business priorities and challenges and building strong professional relationships with the directors and the wider team;
  • Coaching departmental heads to ensure teams are developed through competency frameworks and personal development plans, and that talent succession strategies are developed to support future business growth;
  • Ensuring the staff handbook and related policies and procedures remain up to date with business requirements and current legislation; and
  • Streamlining existing workflows to drive efficiency and ensure the business can sustain current levels of growth.

Qualities of the successful candidate will include;

Essential

  • Qualified (min. Level 5) CIPD member with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working at a management level;
  • Commercially astute, with demonstrable experience of operating in a rapid growth, private sector SME, ideally in an engineering or manufacturing industry;
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively, from the board level to the shop floor;
  • Excellent up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice;
  • Demonstrable ability to build and maintain a professional and supportive HR function;
  • A track record of developing an employer brand and experience of managing the recruitment processes of a fast-growing business, including selection support; and
  • A goal-oriented approach with a commitment to discretion and confidentiality, exceptional attention to detail, and an ability to focus in an interruption-prone environment.

Desirable
  • Experience of managing a team operating in a wide range of HR disciplines;
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications, including Excel, and experience of working with specialist HR software solutions;
  • A track record of developing and delivering bespoke HR related training to employees;
  • A relevant talent assessment accreditation; and
  • Demonstrable experience of developing talent management and succession planning strategies;
