Ways to Wellness is a pioneering, not-for-profit organisation delivering social prescribing ‘at scale’ to people living with long-term health conditions who live in the west of Newcastle . Social prescribing is the use of non-medical interventions to support people to achieve sustained lifestyle change and improved self-care.
Ways to Wellness is the first social impact bond (SIB) funded service in health in the UK, with SIB investment provided by Bridges Fund Management. Ways to Wellness holds a 7-year NHS contract with the NHS Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Ways to Wellness receives outcome-based payments from the CCG, The National Lottery Community Fund and the Cabinet Office when outcomes are achieved for patients in two areas: (a) improved patient wellbeing and (b) reduced hospital costs. Ways to Wellness sub-contracts two local services providers – a social enterprise (First Contact Clinical) and a charity (Mental Health Concern) – who together employ 28 Link Workers to deliver the service. The Ways to Wellness social prescribing service started in April 2015, with over 6,000 patients referred to the service in its first four years. Ways to Wellness aims to reach approximately 10,000 patients over seven years.

This Finance Manager position is an opportunity to be part of an exciting, ground-breaking service that aims to make a difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. The role will provide the successful candidate with unique opportunities to work with experienced senior decision-makers and make a meaningful contribution to strategic management decisions.
Reporting to the CEO, the Finance Manager will work closely with the CEO ensuring first class financial management and robust financial controls as well as playing a significant part in the management and strategic planning of the business. The Finance Manager will be responsible for financial modelling, financial reporting, control and forecasting, maintaining good external relationships with partners, assisting the CEO with contract management matters and presenting financial information to the Ways to Wellness’ Boards of Non-Executive Directors and Trustees.
In addition, the Finance Manager will, where necessary, deputise for the CEO to ensure wider organisational requirements are met, including supporting strategic analysis, planning and decision-making.
