More than 90% of their beer sold in the UK is brewed in the UK and they are a major supporter of British agriculture, sourcing 100% of their malt and barley for their UK brewed beer from UK farms and maltsters. Around 30% of all UK apples are used to produce their ciders.



Nigel Wright are working in partnership with HEINEKEN to recruit a business-critical role for the site in Tadcaster. As the brewery embarks on a period of change, continuous improvement and investment, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence, develop and deliver the Site Safety & Environment strategy. The complexities on this site come from both an operational and environmental perspective.

Driving continuous improvement through TPM, the Health and Safety function is pivotal to delivering on the strategy. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent environmental and compliance experience, with a natural ability to drive behavioural change. The brewery is currently undergoing a change management project, which is underpinned by the desire to achieve WCBO within the HEINEKEN brand.

The level of engagement across the site, coupled with the current transformation make this an incredible exciting time to join HEINEKEN. The role would suit an individual who is able to influence multiple stakeholders across different functions, in essence it offers the challenges of ‘multi-site’ but the benefits of being under ‘one roof’.


Key responsibilities within this role include:

  • Ensure management systems meet the needs of the site and maintenance of certified standards. 
  • Maintain and where appropriate improve, accreditation against relevant internal and external audit standards, e.g. ISO standards . Acting as “Management Representative” under ISO 14001 and ISO 18001. 
  • Playing an active role in the Group EHS forums e.g. the UK Safety Pillar, reviewing policy and devising the tactical steps required to achieve Company targets
  • Develop, communicate and lead the site safety and environmental agenda
  • Ensuring all management systems for health, safety and environment are fully maintained, risks and trends identified, and all appropriate action taken
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirement through provision of advice, assistance,  direction, technical expertise and support to site senior management team on safety and environmental matters
  • Driving performance improvement in accident and severity rates by the development, and implementation of strategies and proposals
  • Represent the site as authorised person for Environmental Permit
  • Ensure site has processes in place to remain legally compliant
  • Ensuring legal compliance to EH&S legislation, building and ensuring appropriate communications with the HSE and other external bodies

In order to be considered for this role, candidates must be able to demonstrate the following experience:
  • A natural ability and proven experience driving behaviourial change
  • Extensive and proven experience managing environmental, regulatory and compliance issues/procedures
  • Experience working within a business that is engaging continuous improvement techniques (e.g. IWS, Lead, TPM, Six Sigma   
  • Experience working at management level within a blue-chip FMCG, chemicals or pharmaceutical business
