Packaging Technologist

Teesside  Permanent  Excellent + benefits Ref: 413941

The company

We’re working in partnership with a dynamic and fast-growing FMCG manufacturer to recruit a Packaging Technologist to join their expanding packaging team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a business that is passionate about innovation, sustainability, and quality, and where packaging plays a pivotal role in both strategic and operational success.

The role

Reporting to the Packaging Manager, you’ll work alongside an experienced team, supporting a wide range of packaging projects. You’ll be involved in everything from supplier approvals and trials to sustainability initiatives and customer collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage new and ongoing packaging projects, liaising with suppliers and customers to ensure timelines and deliverables are met.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of packaging legislation, technology, and sustainability trends.
  • Coordinate packaging trials and validations, including creating protocols and attending first production runs.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of packaging specifications and documentation.
  • Lead supplier approvals and audits, including off-site storage facilities.
  • Support internal teams (Quality, Technical, Production) with packaging-related queries and non-conformances.
  • Contribute to HACCP and customer specification documentation.
  • Attend and contribute to monthly packaging meetings and supplier performance reviews.
  • Assist in reviewing new equipment and developing test methods.
  • Carry out internal audits and maintain relevant SOPs.

The candidate

This is more than just a technical role—it’s a chance to shape the future of packaging within a business that values innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You’ll be part of a supportive team, working on high-impact projects with visibility across the organisation and its partners.

Experience in packaging is not a pre-requisite for this role, instead we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following:

  • An understanding of food manufacturing processes
  • Strong organisation and communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask workloads
This role would suit someone who has recently graduated, and has some experience working in food manufacturing.
