Network Engineer

About the Role

You will collaborate closely with Cloud & Infrastructure, End User, and Security teams, with a primary focus on scalable setup and management of customer networks, ensuring security, availability, and capacity. You will respond to network issues promptly to minimize downtime and be pivotal in building and maintaining robust network infrastructures, crucial for maintaining high operational uptime and aligning with overall IT strategies.

The Network Engineer is a critical technical role responsible for the implementation and management of customer networks, firewalls, VPNs, circuits, and network security. Alongside a team of Network Engineers, you will lead on the deployment of new networks, ongoing maintenance, and optimization of performance for efficiency and reliability.

 

Essential Skills

  • Professional certifications in networking (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, Meraki CMNA/CMNO, Fortinet NSE) are highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in managing complex networks in multi-vendor environments.
  • 3-5 years of experience in network engineering with expertise in Meraki, Cisco, and Fortinet products.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols (IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS).
  • Solid experience with network security practices, VPNs, and firewall configuration and management.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve issues efficiently.
  • A commitment to scalability, focusing on reducing overheads through standardized, streamlined technology.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Technical Architect (Networks) and Pre-Sales to understand technical designs and implement solutions.
  • Produce high-quality pre-installation and post-installation documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers in other disciplines (End User, Cloud & Infrastructure, Security) to ensure customer solutions fit within the technical landscape.
  • Work with Project Managers to ensure solutions are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Ensure effective onboarding of customer networks with thorough documentation and robust monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults escalated from 1st or 2nd Line teams.
  • Engage in proactive problem management to enhance stability and efficiency in customer infrastructure.
  • Provide knowledge transfer to 1st and 2nd Line teams for continuous development and upskilling.
  • Visit customer sites when necessary.
  • Produce technical reports for management as required.
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably required by the line manager.
