Engineering Manager

HEINEKEN is the UK’s leading pub, cider and beer Company and the name behind iconic drinks brands such as Strongbow, Bulmers, Heineken®, Foster's, Kronenbourg 1664 and Desperados, together with a full range of speciality brands.
They employ 2,300 people in the UK and have breweries, cider plants and offices in Edinburgh, Tadcaster, Manchester, London, Hereford and Ledbury.
More than 90% of their beer sold in the UK is brewed in the UK and they are a major supporter of British agriculture, sourcing 100% of their malt and barley for their UK brewed beer from UK farms and maltsters. Around 30% of all UK apples are used to produce their ciders.
The role
Nigel Wright are working in partnership with HEINEKEN to recruit a business-critical role for the site in Manchester. As the brewery embarks on a period of change, continuous improvement and investment, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence, develop and deliver the Engineering strategy.
Driving continuous improvement through TPM, the Head of Engineering will play a pivotal role as the brewery looks to raise the bar and meet global HEINEKEN standards. The brewery’s change management project is underpinned by the desire to achieve WCBO within the HEINEKEN brand. Reporting directly to the Site Director, and sitting on the Senior Leadership Team, the Head of Engineering will have responsibility for providing operational leadership across the utilities team as well as providing Engineering leadership across the site.
Alongside being a technical engineering expert, the Head of Engineering will be a passionate about people, demonstrating a coaching and mentoring approach. Proven success in developing individuals in a matrix environment is a must.
Key responsibilities within this role include:
- Leading the site Engineering team in achieving objectives and targets in 3 key areas:
- Safety & Compliance
- Preventative Maintenance (PM) Pillar of TPM
- Efficient generation and use of utilities
- Creating and implementing a robust improvement agenda across all aspects of Engineering, ensuring the inclusion of operations to achieve optimum output levels
- Playing a pivotal role in the skills development of the Engineering team, identifying opportunities and gaps in order to positively impact continuous personal development and succession planning
- Influencing loss reduction through cross functional teams and deploying a strategy that encourages ownership across engineering and operations
- Creating an environment where individuals thrive to deliver high performance and develop a mindset of ‘best in class’
The person
In order to be considered for this role, candidates must be able to demonstrate the following experience:
- A natural ability and proven experience driving behaviourial change
- Extensive and proven experience managing an Engineering team within a complex and fast paced manufacturing business
- Experience managing utilities
- Experience working within a business that is engaging continuous improvement techniques (e.g. IWS, Lead, TPM, Six Sigma)
