The Company

A pioneering manufacturing business with a real difference. Part of a large group and very successful in their specialism this business is different because of their people. From the people in the factory to their Managing Director they are all bought into the journey, open, honest and act like one large, diverse family. They are searching for someone to join them on the next period of growth. Currently a £10million turnover with a team of around 40 they have doubled in size recently and are about to move to larger premises, around late summer 2025. 

The Role

The Head of Manufacturing is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing and optimising all manufacturing and operational activities within the company. This person will drive operational excellence, ensure the efficient production of high-quality products, and lead the strategic planning and execution of initiatives to achieve business goals. 

Responsibilities: 
•    Continue to develop effective production planning, scheduling and resource allocation to ensure timely delivery of products.
•    Collaborate with senior leadership to forecast and meet production demands.
•    Lead the implementation and integration of ERP systems to streamline operations, improve data accuracy, and enhance overall efficiency.
•    Manage procurement to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment, while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
•    Working with the Production manager to deliver comprehensive training programs to enhance the knowledge and skills of the production team.
•    Monitor and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales and finance, to optimise operational processes and drive continuous improvement.
•    Leading further improvements in technologies, people and processes
•    Ensuring that the warehousing and logistics function fully supports the business and customer’s needs.
•    Participating actively in the board level discussions in respect of the strategic running and evolution of the business in all its aspects
•    Working with Quality to ensure Product quality is inline with expectations and regulatory compliance
•    Manage budgets for manufacturing and operations, ensuring cost efficiency and profitability.
•    Oversee equipment procurement, maintenance, and capacity planning
 

The person

The role requires a results-driven leader with strong problem-solving skills and a keen focus on continuous improvement. Must have a strong engineering background.  Must also understand this is a small business and as such has a 'muck in' ethos. 

•    Degree in Engineering, Operations Management or related field would be useful
•    Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other operational improvement frameworks.
•    Ability to analyse data, forecast trends, and implement effective solutions.
•    Practical with a real world understanding of how factories, machinery people and warehousing work.
•    A proven track record of success in growing the profitability and operational performance of an organisation
•    Exceptional leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
•    Have a strong understanding of how to motivate and obtain the best from the various levels and abilities within your team
•    High integrity and openness combined with commitment to good governance
•    High energy, highly motivated, with an enquiring mind and passion for excellence
