Gambling Engagement Practitioner

The Role


Nigel Wright are delighted to support a North East Leading Charity with their search for a Gambling Engagement Practitioner.  

Role Responsibilities

  • Facilitate referrals and provide advice, guidance, assessments, brief and structured interventions, as well as group programmes to individuals experiencing gambling-related difficulties.
  • Offer advice and support to colleagues working with individuals affected by gambling behaviour, enhancing their understanding and approach.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders, promote the service’s mission, and recruit community partners to expand outreach efforts.
  • Develop and support a network of Community Champions to raise awareness and address gambling-related harm within local communities.

The Person

Skills/Attributes:

Knowledge:

  • Awareness of equality, diversity, and inclusion values.
  • Understanding of gambling-related issues and interventions.
  • Familiarity with community services in the North East.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding best practices, confidentiality, and data protection.
Skills:
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Skilled in building and maintaining relationships with key organisations and stakeholders.
  • Competent in IT, including MS Office, online platforms (Teams, Zoom), and maintaining accurate records.
  • Effective use of Motivational Interviewing and solution-focused approaches, with willingness to train in CBT techniques.
  • Adaptable to various service delivery settings across the North East.
Experience:
  • Working in multi-disciplinary teams and with vulnerable people.
  • Delivering 1:1 psychosocial interventions.
  • Community-based, peripatetic working.
  • Ideally, experience supporting those affected by gambling harms.
Qualifications:
  • NQF Level 4 (or higher) Professional Diploma in a relevant field, such as Health and Social Care or Counselling.
