Nigel Wright is delighted to be supporting a growth orientated Engineering and Projects Delivery business specialising in the design, installation, management, and consultancy of systems across various sectors, with specific expertise in tunnelling, ports and aggregates.  With a strong track record of delivering projects in the UK, Europe, and Asia, our client is now looking to recruit a commercial manager to support their next phase of growth. 

 

Role

The Commercial Manager is a strategic role, ensuring legal compliance, fostering positive relationships, and providing commercial insights. Reporting to the Head of Commercial, the role will interact with all key business areas to maintain operating profit and identify growth opportunities. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Finance Interface:
 

  • Cashflow forecasting and reviews. 
  • Monitor planned vs actual costs. 
Projects/Supply Chain Interface: 
  • Contract management with Project Managers, including risk reviews, early warnings, and compensation events. 
  • Negotiate and review supply chain terms. 
Sales/Bids Interface: 
  • Review bids and proposals. 
  • Negotiate payment milestones based on cashflow. 
  • Handle contract negotiations. 
External Interface: 
  • Attend and chair client and internal meetings. 
Other Activities: 
  • Prepare board reports and monthly cashflow reviews. 
  • Manage payment applications and report to finance, including bad debt collection. 
  • Prepare project reporting as per contract specifications. 

Experience

  

  • Experience of working within an engineering organisation, either directly or through a colocation/secondment arrangement . 
  • Knowledge of NEC3, NEC4, MF1, JCT, and bespoke contracts. 
  • Experience in commercial management within collaborative, multi-organisation teams. 
  • Proven experience in a commercial management role within a construction or project-led environment. 
  • Strong financial acumen and contract management skills. 
  • Excellent negotiation and reporting skills.
