Head of Category Management

Office Depot are looking for a strategic leader with passion, energy, intellect and drive to develop winning solutions. The Head of Category Management will bring innovative ideas and a track record of creating results through teamwork. You will be working from the head office in Stockholm and report directly to the CPO.

The role requires you to provide strategic direction, leadership, and management of the category team, ensuring that all activities contribute to the company’s growth and profitability targets with a spend exceeding SEK 600 million.

Using internal, consumer, shopper and retail data, the Head of Category will lead the development of insights to create compelling selling opportunities and recommendations to drive sales and profitability and deliver sustainable growth of market share.

The Role


  • Category Vision and Strategy: creates, communicates, and maintains a category vision and strategy that is based on appropriate business intelligence and buy-in from stakeholders.
  • Strategic Sourcing: creates, aligns, and maintains sourcing strategies to continuously re-evaluate and improve procurement of goods and services.
  • Contracting: understands industry contracting norms and contracting requirements. Successfully facilitates negotiation of final contracts that achieve business goals.
  • Supplier Engagement: proactively segments suppliers and utilizes engagement programs to improve performance and achieve business goals.
  • Continuous Improvement: always be seeking ways to streamline, automate, and simplify processes. This will include deployment of tools, proficiency in data analytics, and ability to work with IT to provide system requirements.
  • Communication: effectively communicate at all levels of the organization. Interface with senior management to develop category management plans and to drive cost efficiency targets.
  • Cost Savings: development of new policies and procedures to drive savings and lead organizational and operational change management to deliver agreed targets. Consistently monitor and evaluate savings against targets by category, sub-category, and supplier.

Candidate profile


  • Minimum of 10 years’ of experience in category development and strategic sourcing with experience from omnichannel retail.
  • Must possess strong overall knowledge and understanding of business/contract issues and broad understanding of competitive products, technology, and market and industry issues.
  • Proven track-record in implementing and managing change across all levels of an organization.
  • Prior experience in implementing and adopting eProcurement systems is a plus.
  • Business-driven with a strong ability to structure and plan work. 
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to work both on an operational and strategic level.
  • Strong leader who can drive changes and shape an organisation. 
  • Entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Fluent Swedish and English language skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Brings a M.Sc. degree.
