Join Jacobs Douwe Egberts in the Nordics and help brew a more sustainable future

As Sustainability Manager for the Nordics, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the coffee business. Based in Oslo, Stockholm, or Copenhagen, and reporting to the Nordic Marketing Director, you’ll work closely with the Nordic teams to develop and implement sustainable practices that align with the company’s global sustainability goals. This role includes one direct report, the Nordic Sustainability Specialist. Regular travelling to the headquarters in Copenhagen is required. 

What you'll do

  • Lead with purpose: Spearhead sustainability initiatives in the Nordics, focusing on reducing the environmental footprint, supporting local communities, and sourcing responsibly.
  • Be a Nordic sustainability expert: Leverage your knowledge of the Nordic market to develop region-specific sustainability strategies together with your associate (our Nordic Sustainability Specialist)
  • Collaborate for impact: Work cross-functionally to drive sustainable practices across supply chain and operations.
  • Inspire change: Communicate the sustainability story to internal and external stakeholders, fostering a culture of sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the Nordic sustainability strategy: Align sustainability goals with the company's overall objectives. Develop and implement strategies to communicate the sustainability story effectively to consumers, customers, partners, and other professional stakeholders.
  • Technical expertise: Provide guidance on products, packaging, packaging waste, coffee machines, and local supply chain for the purpose of becoming more sustainable. Represent JDE Peet’s as a technical expert externally towards trade associations.
  • Stakeholder management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including customers, retailers, NGOs, PROs, relevant authorities, and industry
  • Brand positioning: Work with the marketing team to position JDE Peet’s and the JDE product brands as the sustainability leader through effective storytelling and messaging. Educate customers about JDE´s sustainability initiatives and address their concerns. Develop customer-facing materials and tools to promote sustainable coffee consumption.
  • Market research: Stay up to date on sustainability trends, regulations, and consumer preferences. Identify opportunities to differentiate our brand through sustainable offerings.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including the global Sustainability team, supply chain, production, regulatory, sales and marketing, to ensure alignment on sustainability goals and initiatives.
  • Measurement and reporting: Track and report on sustainability performance metrics. Analyze data to identify areas for improvement and measure the impact of sustainability initiatives on sales and brand reputation.
  • Facilitate the Nordic Sustainability Steering Committee, in close cooperation with key stakeholders

What we're looking for

  • A Nordic sustainability champion: Demonstrate deep knowledge of the Nordic region's environmental, social, and cultural landscape. Passionately drive positive change and promote sustainable practices in the Nordics.
  • A strong communicator: Proven ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels, build strong relationships, and collaborate across diverse teams. Excellent networking skills and experience in influencing key decision-makers.
  • An expert in Packaging and Packaging Waste Legislation: Proven ability to ensure compliance, promote circularity, and engage with stakeholders.
  • An expert in EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR): Deep understanding of the EUDR and its implications for supply chain management and corporate governance. Proven ability to ensure compliance with the regulation and create transparent, deforestation-free supply chains.

Required Experience & Competencies

  • Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in a field which provides the necessary sustainability expertise.
  • Experience & Competencies: 5 years of relevant sustainability management experience preferably from FMCG / Food experience. Preferably technical knowledge and expertise on one of the following areas: packaging (waste) reduction, CO2 emission reduction, and/or responsible sourcing. Fluency in English and one of the Nordic languages. Solid reporting and data analytics skills.
