The Strategic Business Development Director is a critical role responsible for the development, management, and success of specific products or product lines. This role acts as a bridge between cross-functional teams, including R&D, marketing, regulatory affairs, and sales, to ensure that products meet market needs, regulatory requirements, and business objectives. Reporting to the CEO, this role is a member of the management team. 

 

Key tasks and responsibilities

Product Strategy and Vision

  • Define and communicate the product vision, strategy, and innovation roadmap in alignment with the company's overall goals.
  • Conduct market research to understand customer needs, competitive landscape, and industry trends.
  • Develop a clear product positioning and differentiation strategy.

Product Development
  • Responsible for product ideas / innovations
  • Lead R&D and collaborate with regulatory teams to guide the development of new products from concept to launch.
  • Ensure that product specifications meet clinical, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Oversee the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept through post-launch activities.

Business Planning and Financial Management
  • Develop business cases and financial models to support product investment decisions.
  • Monitor product profitability, pricing strategies, and market performance.
  • Work with finance and sales teams to set sales targets and manage the product's P&L.

Cross-functional Team collaboration
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, regulatory affairs, and supply chain, to deliver products on time and within budget.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all product-related matters, ensuring alignment across all stakeholders.
  • Facilitate communication between teams to address any challenges or issues that arise during the product development process.

Regulatory and Compliance Management
  • Ensure that all products meet regulatory standards and compliance requirements in all target markets.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in regulatory requirements and adjust product strategies accordingly.

Marketing and Sales Support
  • Work closely with marketing teams to develop and execute product launch plans.
  • Provide training and support to sales teams to ensure they understand product features, benefits, and positioning.
  • Monitor market feedback and sales performance to make data-driven adjustments to marketing strategies.

Customer and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Engage with key customers, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders to gather insights and feedback.
  • Ensure that customer needs and feedback are integrated into product development and improvement plans.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and meetings with key opinion leaders.

Continuous Improvement
  • Analyze product performance metrics and customer feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the pharmaceutical OTC industry.
  • Lead post-launch reviews and product optimization initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Business Administration, or related field. An advanced degree (e.g., MBA, PharmD) is preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in product management, business ownership, or related roles within the pharmaceutical OTC or medical devices.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing products through the entire lifecycle.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of substance based MD, FS, Pharmacy cosmetics & OTC product development, regulatory processes, and market dynamics.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis and business case development.
