Organisational context: The Consumer Packaging division consists of six production sites in three countries employing a total of 800 people. The division is focused on providing high-quality packaging solutions for the consumer market and strives for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
The World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Manager plays a crucial role in optimising manufacturing processes and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The WCM Manager works closely with production and operations teams to develop and implement efficient, sustainable and cost-effective production methods.
You will be reporting into: Chief Operational Officer.

The role is located in: the Netherlands, preferably in Harlingen with regular travel to the various production sites in Europe.

Job purpose

To identify, develop, implement and optimise World Class Manufacturing methodologies within the Consumer Packaging division to achieve continuous improvement in safety, production efficiency, cost control, standardisation, quality and sustainability. The WCM Manager works with production and operations teams to integrate lean principles and achieve production objectives. 

Core responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement WCM strategiesDefining a clear WCM vision and strategy for the Consumer Packaging division. Implement WCM principles such as 5S, Kaizen, TPM, SMED, VSM, Visual Management System and Lean Manufacturing in collaboration with production and operational managers. Involves safety in all these aspects.
  • Working with production teams: Work closely with production and operations managers in the production sites to increase efficiency and reduce waste. Ensure alignment between WCM goals and operational needs of production sites.
  • Improvement initiatives and analysis: Analyse production processes, systematically resolve problem items and identify bottlenecks or areas for improvement. Initiate improvement proposals based on data analysis and operational audits. Perform in-depth root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve performance indicators.
  • KPI monitoring and reporting: Develop and manage a system for monitoring critical performance indicators (KPIs) such as productivity, lead time, quality level and cost savings. Periodically report results to the divisional management team.
  • Training and development: Train and coach production and operations teams on WCM methodologies and tools. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and sharing of best practices between production sites.
  • Project management: Lead and coordinate improvement projects within the division. Ensure effective project execution within agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Culture of improvement: Fostering a proactive, data-driven and collaborative culture centred on continuous improvement. Facilitate cross-functional workshops and Kaizen events.

About you

  • Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7-10 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, including at least 5 years in a World Class Manufacturing, Lean (green or black belt), or Continuous Improvement role.
  • Experience in a multi-site manufacturing environment and international experience.
  • Experience implementing WCM in the packaging industry is an advantage.
  • In-depth knowledge of WCM principles and tools such as 5S, TPM, SMED, Kaizen and Value Stream Mapping. See point 1
  • Experience in project management and change management.
  • Excellent command of Dutch, English and German and/or French, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of other languages is a plus given the international focus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to show leadership and motivate and inspire teams.
  • Results-oriented with a strong focus on efficiency and cost savings.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to various production sites.
