Mathilda's Blog - Life at Nigel Wright


In order to portray a real representation of the culture here at Nigel Wright, we asked some of our Consultants to answer a series of questions about their careers and about working at Nigel Wright. Our Oslo based Research Consultant Mathilda Martinsson shares why she decided to join Nigel Wright, her industry experience prior to joining Nigel Wright as well as her advice to anyone considering joining our team.

How did you first learn about Nigel Wright Group? Why did you join?

The first time I got in touch with Nigel Wright was in October 2019. I was looking for a new job and got in touch with Hedda from the Oslo office. We were discussing my motivations for changing job, and what I was looking for. My background came from the retail industry as a Category Manager, so I was surprised when she asked if I had ever considered working in the recruitment industry!

I joined Nigel Wright in January 2020 as a Research Consultant. And what a year it has been! Changing job and industry in the middle of a global pandemic has been interesting indeed. However, I am so happy with my choice and how the company has handled the situation. I have learnt how fast candidates and the market can adapt. Recruitment was definitely a job I didn’t know I was looking for!

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

A typical day as a Research Consultant varies a lot. We always have several ongoing projects at different stages. A day in my life can include everything from client meetings, talent search, interviews, project planning or administrative tasks. One of the projects that I am currently working for is a Nordic search, where we are looking for a candidate that can be located anywhere in the Nordics. This is something that I really enjoy, and where I get the opportunity to speak with people in different countries!

What has been your favourite search project at Nigel Wright?

I remember one project from last year that I really enjoyed working on. It was an international search where I was searching for an Amazon Marketing Manager for ORKLA Norway. I searched for the right candidate all around Europe and found the perfect candidate who actually started working remotely from Spain. Just another example of how well companies and people adapt!

What did you do before joining Nigel Wright? How has your experience improved the way you serve clients?

My background is from the retail industry as a Category Manager and Buyer. I was part of a team which developed and established a new retail chain in Norway in the beauty and wellbeing industry. Based on this, I have established a good network from previous suppliers and distributors in Norway. This has helped me a lot when finding the right candidate for the right job, and what the client need is. With my perspective, I can interview candidates based on my experience of real-world market knowledge. I can also understand clients’ needs and provide a consultative service to them to closely match their needs with the available talent. 

What do you enjoy most about working at Nigel Wright?

What I enjoy most about working at Nigel Wright is the international environment we have. During this year, I have really understood the value of cross collaborations with different countries. Bringing insight and sharing knowledge has provided me with useful perspectives. I also appreciate that the company gives you the opportunity to grow in your role and career.

What do you find most rewarding about working as a Consultant?

For me, the reward is finding the right candidate for the right job. I get so inspired from all the candidates that I meet, and to help them finding their dream job is the biggest reward I can get!

What would your advice be to anyone looking to join us?

Do not be afraid to apply even if you don’t have specific recruitment experience! If you come from the industry like me, your experience and knowledge will be valuable which will help you work within recruitment.
