In order to portray a real representation of the culture here at Nigel Wright, we asked some of our Consultants to answer a series of questions about their careers and about working at Nigel Wright. Our Stockholm based Principal Consultant Karin Andersson shares how she first learnt about Nigel Wright, what her typical working day looks like, how we have supported her in her career and much more.
How did you first learn about Nigel Wright? What was it like upon joining?
I worked in search in London for nearly 10 years and knew about Nigel Wright Group as a competitor. Once I had decided to return to Sweden with my family I was pleased to see there was an office in Stockholm and a really strong Nordic client base. After a quick trip over and a meeting with the Country Manager and the two Directors, I happily accepted an offer to join as a Senior Consultant. My first day was 4th March 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic was announced; with all that this entailed.
This initially meant that many assignments paused for a couple of months so it was a tough start. However, I felt supported and have been impressed with how the company has handled the situation. They were quick-thinking and importantly managed to protect jobs. We have also collaborated greatly across offices and after summer, business picked up again and it has continued this way!
What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?
It is a bit of a cliché but there is no typical day apart from the morning check-in with the team. A day can consist of interviews, research, client meetings, business development, pitches and internal catch-ups; often a day consist of all those things. It’s actually impossible to get bored in this role!
What has been your favourite recruitment project at Nigel Wright?
I find newly created roles and fast-growing businesses opening new markets particularly exciting. I have enjoyed the work we are doing with LiveKindly Collective recently. It’s such an exciting company and proposition but I do not have any favourite clients a such. Each search is unique and requires its own approach and process so it’s always interesting.
How has Nigel Wright helped you in your career development?
After just shy of a year I was promoted to Principal Consultant and now lead the two Researchers here in Stockholm. I have received great support to enable my continuous development which has enabled me to grow my Nordic network and commercial capabilities greatly in this past year.
What’s been one of your proudest moments working at Nigel Wright?
Every time we find a great match for our clients it’s a proud moment, and it is a pleasure to deliver great service to both clients and candidates. Doing it together with a dedicated and engaged team is the cherry on the cake!
How is Nigel Wright different to other companies?
For me, the most noticeable difference is the truly collaborative culture we have at Nigel Wright. This provides great advantages for clients and candidates alike and we share knowledge and insights daily, particularly across the Nordics. If you are open to it, you literally learn something new every day. We have found more and more Nordic clients are flexible to where their candidate is based, meaning we often team-up with colleagues in the Danish and Norwegian offices to seek out the best-suited talent. This is now common practise for us and is a win-win for all parties.
What would your advice be to anyone looking to join us?
If you are curious, resilient, ambitious and genuinely interested in people and business, this is a great career where you can develop quickly. Keep your standards high, always putting candidate and client experience first.
