Company

Our client is a family-run US company and manufacturer of consumer products. The company employs around 3,500 people worldwide and sells its products in around 40 countries.
They are now looking for a Finance Director Accounting (gn) for their office in Germany.
 

Responsibilities

The Financial Director Accounting (gn) is responsible for all aspects of financial controllership including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, VAT & Taxation, Cash management and reporting, producing statutory accounts and preparing annual reports.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Is able to provide clear leadership and direction to a team of circa 15 people
  • Is focused on delivering functional results and continuous process improvement
  • Ensures that each team member receives regular coaching, development, and where necessary training, to enable them to perform their job to the highest standard

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Receivable and Debt Collection
  • Ensure that the team delivers on time regular reporting for Accounts Receivable (Debtors), and adhere to established processes on A/R whilst looking to improve them. Liaise with the Amsterdam Commercial finance team to ensure accurate and timely recording of and clearing of trade spend accruals, debit and credit notes.

Accounts Payable and Creditor Management
  • Ensure that the team delivers on time regular reporting against Accounts Payable (Creditors), and adhere to established processes on A/P. 

Treasury, and Cash Management
  • Ensure that cash is managed and controlled, (including reviewing processes for compliance, ensuring accurate records are kept, and regular reconciliations of accounts), and recorded in a timely fashion in SAP.

General Ledger control
  • Ensure that postings to the General ledger are managed and controlled (including reviewing processes for compliance, ensuring that accurate records are kept, and regular reconciliations of accounts) and recorded. This should include a regular review of access to post, and check for mis-postings or un-approved postings.
  • Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.

Tax and VAT compliance (in all regions the company operates)
  • Ensure that all local regulations are complied with and that all business finance documentation (e.g. invoices, payments) meets the required standards of local authorities, and that all local filing deadlines are met in a timely fashion.

Preparation of statutory Accounts and support of group audit
  • Ensure that statutory as well as filing deadlines are met (leveraging external experts where necessary), both for US GAAP preparation, as well as local deadlines (HBG, IFRS). Ensure that the group auditors receive all necessary support to deliver their opinion, (which should be unqualified.)

Fixed Asset Ledger management, and Capital expenditure
  • Ensure that all capital improvement projects are accurately recorded in a timely fashion, and capitalized in line with company policies. Regular and accurate reconciliations of the fixed asset ledger.

Continuous improvement
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement in the team, with a view to creating improvement across all areas of financial accounting, including control and compliance, reporting, transactional speed and effectiveness, team skills, cross-functional training.

Education:
  • University degree, preferably in Accounting/Finance, or similar field
  • Professional Qualification in Accounting

Experience:
  • Profound experience working in an Accounting environment
  • Experience managing at least mid-sized teams
