Company

C.H.G. is an international manufacturer of baked goods (soft buns, burger buns). The business focuses on private label and QSR. They are now looking for a procurement Director. This position is responsible for the physical and financial procurement of all direct & indirects cost across Europe.  This position will manage the execution of all aspects of sourcing, procurement, and supplier performance.  Responsibilities will focus on the physical supply for CHG, managing the contracting, sourcing, costing & pricing of raw materials, utilities and spare parts, supporting quality, service, continuous improvement, and value performance across the supply chain.  The position is accountable for ca £100m spends across 3 main markets (UK, BNL, Germany) and 6 factories.
 

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:
Procurement: 90%
Financial Risk Management: 30%

  1. Responsible for the divisional financial exposure of raw materials & utilities relative to future cash flows.
          - Maintain awareness of market conditions; create financial projections, and gain approval/buy-in with the construction and execution of various strategies to mitigate adverse market price volatility
          - Conduct monthly market updates with Management and others as needed
        2. Accountable for actual Vs. budgetary & actual Vs. market performance.         - Report on physical and financial coverage
         - Develop budgets
         - Execute contracts & manage contract performance
         - Communicate expected costs & issue monthly cost projections
         - Update and manage SAP financial records
         - Resolve/communicate financial concerns

Physical Risk Management: 60%
  1. Responsible for managing/implementing various sales, research, and innovation initiatives as they relate to Procurement.
  2. Accountable for supplier performance.
        - Adherence to service commitments, specification commitments, and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
        - Problem solving, mediation, resolution (including claim recovery).

Project Management: 10%
  1. Serve as the liaison between Procurement, R&D, and Sales.
  2. Responsible for identification and execution of cost savings projects, sales efforts, quality assurance efforts, and Research initiatives.
  3. Responsible for identification of strategic partnerships and the creation of appropriate supply agreements.
         - Manage service contracts.
         - Issue tactical and strategic goals/objectives.
         - Lead multidisciplinary teams to accomplish Continuous Improvement initiatives.
          - Facilitate updates to communicate relationship results.
Sales Support: 10%
Responsible to communicate market conditions, costings, and outlooks as needed.
 

Profile

Organisation

  • The role has a solid/direct reporting line into the Managing Director Europe and a dotted functional line to the Global Procurement VP
  • It is a key member of the European Leadership Team (7 people)
  • The role manages 2 procurement managers: 1 based in Germany, 1 based in the UK
Education/Certifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required: Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Supply Chain, Business, or related discipline preferred
Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in procurement for a CPG firm
  • Profile with prior experience of food raw material (wheat…) preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Understanding of truck/rail logistics management
  • Knowledge of production agriculture and farm profitability factors.
  • Understanding of grain futures, futures spreads, and basis relationships
  • Understanding of grain quality management and its associated commercial opportunities
  • Understanding of grain flows and ability to capture opportunities presented by the market
  • Effective interpersonal and strong written/verbal communication skills required
  • A proven track record of quickly identifying and resolving problem areas.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills required
  • Flexibility and adaptive to a rapidly changing environment. 
  • Strong Excel-based PC analytic skills required
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Travel- ~40% or as required
