The role


For our European combustion team, we are now looking for a Combustion Development Engineer who will be involved in the design tasks of a first of a kind cement reactor, operating at high temperatures, being developed as part of the Leilac technology. In this role, you will follow up natural gas combustion system implementation in our LEILAC-2 project, work with Design & Mechanical Teams as a combustion expert for material specification, gas quality and the  burner technology. Safety in the work of the Combustion team will be your responsibility, not only supporting a safe work environment and culture but also ensuring the safety verifications needed for the combustion system. You will organise the commissioning strategy and testing program of LEILAC-2 for natural gas combustion system during 2025-2026. R&D will be a part of your role, where you will work on activities to explore combustion concepts and identify viable solutions. 

This is an exciting role where you will be bringing research and development experience to the table and the ability to propose creative and innovative solutions, thinking "outside the box." The role is primarily remote, and you can be located anywhere in Europe. This position will entail occasional travel for face-to-face meetings, testing and commissioning. However, the frequency and duration of travel will be tailored to ensure a healthy work-life balance.


Other tasks and responsibilities

  • Act as a technical expert & support for natural gas combustion system.
  • Participate to the development of the full-scale solution
  • Participate to critical commissioning & testing phase in L2 (Germany), developing commissioning strategy and road map for fuel and burner adjustment  
  • Verify & improve functional description of the combustion system
  • Evaluate how combustion performance impact on calcination
  • Develop calculation tools, produce technical notes, presentations and communication tools  
  • Work with Techno-economic team to verify the solution that are developed meet Leilac target (OPEX/ CAPEX)

Desired Qualifications and skills:

  • A degree with relevant engineering or technical discipline
  • Minimums 5 years proven industrial experience in combustion, ideally from cement or lime
  • Solid knowledge of combustion & thermodynamic
  • Well-versed in combustion system commissioning and optimization, organising and conducting tests 
  • Experience with leading safety work, with understanding of European Safety Standard - 746/2 – ATEX
  • Experience conducting 2D/3D CFD simulations of reactive/non-reactive flows and performing heat transfer analyses, creating the 3D fluid model, and developing the computational grid
