Non Permanent...
From a candidate’s point of view, non permanent work can offer many opportunities often overlooked. It allows individuals to broaden their experience and can provide exposure to different roles in different types of organisation. Our consultants can advise candidates of all of the options available to them to ensure they take the path that suits them best.
Reasons for recruiting temporary staff
Companies employ people on a temporary basis for various reasons including:
- Support and assistance with specific projects
- Continue to meet business demand during busy periods of the year
- Cover maternity leave or other absences
- To analyse an employee’s performance with a view to offering permanent employment
The benefits of temporary work
The main benefits of temporary work are as follows:
- Temporary work allows candidates to balance their commitments
- A temporary assignment can lead to a permanent position being offered
- Candidates can get an insight into a range of companies and management styles by taking on temporary assignments – increasing their range of experiences and their professional networks
- Good rates of pay are available in certain key sectors
- A good history of temporary or contract work will increase clients’ interest in candidates
Our advice
To have a successful career as a temporary staff member it is important to maintain a strong and close relationship with both your consultant and your employer. Consultants will only be able to represent you if they know what your most recent experience was and what your current status is. Timesheets
Nigel Wright offer an online timesheet service to our clients and candidates. This allows a fast and efficient way to manage authorisation of hours worked and payment of salary.
Payment
Payments are received on a weekly or monthly basis depending on the agreement made in advance with your consultant.
Our dedicated payroll team can offer advice to all non permanent and contract candidates and clients, reinforcing the professional and personal service we offer as a company. Nigel Wright provide an e-payslip to all our non permanent workers.
Holiday Pay
The European Working Time Directive stipulates, as of 1st October 2007, that all employees should receive 24 days paid holiday, which includes bank holidays.
National Insurance and Tax
Nigel Wright will deduct PAYE (Pay As You Earn) tax and National Insurance (NI) from your salary automatically. If you are working in the UK for the first time you will need to complete a P46 and apply for an NI number. You can obtain a P46 from your consultant.
To apply for an NI number, contact the Department of Social Security on 020 7712 2171, who will inform you of their nearest office. We strongly recommend that you obtain an NI number, as this registers your eligibility for state benefits, including free hospital and doctors’ services.
If you wish to work through a limited company, we recommend that you seek independent, professional advice regarding the set up and operation of such a company. This is particularly important in the light of the Government’s anti-tax avoidance legislation, IR35. For further information on IR35, visit the Inland Revenue website: www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk
Visa
To be considered for temporary or contract roles, you must have the right to work in the UK. If you are not a British, EC or EEA national, we shall reject your application unless you have secured, or are eligible for, a UK visa. Unfortunately we are not able to assist you in securing sponsorship through a UK company.
If you are unsure about your visa status for the UK, please refer to www.ukvisas.gov.uk for further information.

Testimonials
Nigel Wright displayed a strong insight into the business and more importantly precisely what the client was looking for from day one. As a result I consistently felt prepared and comprehensively briefed at each stage of the process. Unlike other recruitment companies I have dealt with, Nigel Wright provided a balanced view of the company and the role, spending time understanding my motivations and longer term career goals. This unique approach to recruitment has resulted in a win-win for both the candidate and the client, therefore I would highly recommend Nigel Wright.
